Located in the Northwest of the island of Majorca,
in the very centre of the Bay of Alcudia, the biggest bay of the
Balearics, with 17 kilometres of beach.
Ca'n Picafort is a tourist area with an important offer of accommodation,
basically of beachside hotels. Contrary to many of the resorts arisen
on the island along the beaches in the last decades, it is not only
a holiday resort. Ca'n Picafort is, additionally, a village with
the peculiarities and the normal life of a small coastal town. Its
history is documented since 1860, its centre being the oldest one,
with wide terraces, that grew starting at the jetty, where nowadays
the marina is located.
Preserved areas of woods extend towards the east, with only two
small villages and hardly any tourist development. At this end of
the bay is Cap Farrutx, one of the most beautiful areas of the island,
with cliffs and pinegroves of difficult access by car, but not by
boat or hiking.
Towards the west is the Natural park of "La Albufera",
Playa de Muro (2 Km.), Puerto de Alcudia (11 Km.), Alcudia (14 Km.),
Puerto de Pollença (22 Km.) and Formentor (31 Km.), all of
them being tourist areas. The biggest in extension in Puerto de
Alcudia and the less developed is Formentor. At the end of the bay
is Cap de Formentor, of great scenic beauty, with access by road
and with extraordinary vantage-points.
The main nucleus of Ca'n Picafort is where the
"gran" beach begins and extends over 13 Km up to the beach
of Muro and Alcudia. Here the urban nucleus follows the coastline,
with a promenade alongside the beach, except at its western end
where we find an extraordinary area of dunes.
Parallel to the beach as well as the promenade, and a few streets
towards the centre, we encounter the Paseo Colón, the main
avenue of Ca'n Picafort where most of the shops and commercial activities
are located here.
In the old part of town, with the marina, the
Townhall, the Tourist Office and the Post Office, and in its more
elevated part, the gardens of "La Residencia" and the
Church.
Son Bauló is a residential area, but also
with a hotel offer. A beach is located at the outlet of a torrent,
with Son Real (protected natural area) on the other side. From this
beach, small in dimensions, rocky areas and small, sandy beaches
alternate along the shore (approx. 1 km.).
